Environmental Carpet & Air Care talks about clean air ducts

Aug 19, 2015   //   by Ema   //   Blog Topics  //  No Comments

It’s hot out with peak summer temps and air conditioners everywhere are running to the max. We often think of our air and heating systems (HVAC) as just regulating temperatures inside, but really they are the “lungs of your home.” Your home’s system takes air in and breathes it out and is the precursor for indoor air quality.

The top two reasons for cleaning and servicing your air ducts are indoor air quality and efficiency.

Indoor air quality and health

Indoor air quality is one of the most important aspects of living in your home as is closely relates to your respiratory health. Through normal occupation in a home, we generate a great deal of contaminants and air pollutants, such as dander, pet hair, dust, and chemicals. It is estimated that in a typical six-room home, up to 40 pounds of dust is created annually through everyday living. These contaminants are pulled into the HVAC system and re-circulated 5 to 7 times per day, on average. Over time, this re-circulation causes a build-up of contaminants in the duct work.

Energy savings

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, 25% to 40% of the energy used for heating and cooling a home is wasted. (Information gathered from the NADCA). Contaminants in the heating and cooling system cause it to work harder and shorten the life of your system. Although filters are used, the heating and cooling system still gets dirty through normal use. When an HVAC system is clean, it doesn’t have to work as hard to maintain the temperature you desire. As a result, less energy is used, lending to improved effectiveness.

Below are maintenance tips recommended by the EPA.

  • Use the highest efficiency air filter recommended by the manufacturer for your heating and cooling system.
  • Change filters regularly.
  • Be sure you do not have any missing filters or gaps around the filter holder through which air can bypass the filter.
  • Remove dust and vacuum your home regularly. Use a high efficiency vacuum cleaner with HEPA filters

Area rugs add character and warmth to a room.  They often reflect your personality, taste in art, and may even carry a bit of your ancestry, so naturally you want to care for them and keep them looking great.  Whether it’s your luxurious Gabbeh, priceless Nain, precious Serapi or Kilim, or your favorite Shabby Chic, you want your fine area rugs to glow with all their original character and beauty.

Malibu carpet cleaning

Call the Malibu carpet cleaning experts to clean and care for your area rugs.

The only way to protect your investment and maintain its beauty is with regular professional cleaning. Environmental Carpet Care, the leading service for Malibu carpet cleaning and rug care, provides safe, effective, and powerful area rug cleaning by experienced technicians.

Our complete care process guarantees the proper servicing or your fine area rugs each and every time.

First, we’ll measure your rug and carefully inspect for spots, stains, and other soiling requiring special attention, and we’ll determine a price for cleaning.  We’ll also assess wear patterns and repair needs which can help you make informed decisions about how best to prolong the life and beauty of your rug.

Dusting
When your rug arrives at our facility, we first give it a dry treatment commonly called ‘dusting’.  This is the most important step in our process of cleaning any rug.  Air dusting machines use compressed air blown into a rug combined with gentle machine vibration.  This dislodges and blows dust and soil out from underneath and between fibers.  A powerful vacuum then sucks up the dislodged dust and particulates. This process is commonly used to clean fine area rugs of a delicate construction that would be unable to withstand the shampooing process.

Dusting can remove pounds of dirt and soil from your rug.  We monitor the process and control the duration and level of vibration for each rug; we repeat the process as needed for rugs with problematic areas or large amounts of soil.

Shampooing
We use environmentally friendly, safe cleaning agents to ensure that your rug colors are restored to their best and that dyes remain stable and do not transfer.  The nature of the rug will dictate the actual process we use to shampoo it.  Your rug may be wet with power sprayers and shampooed with brushes that scrub and deep clean the rug.  Alternatively it may require immersion in a special washtub that provides gentle agitation without the use of brushes or power spraying.  Either way, our process and systems are safe and you can trust your heirlooms and precious pieces with us.

Rinsing
When your rug is clean we use a state of the art rinse and wring machine process to gently and quickly remove the cleansing agents and any excess water.  This speeds the drying process, so your rug will be back in your home without waiting weeks as is sometimes the case with other methods.

Drying
Finally, we dry your rug on special racks designed to support your rug while circulating large volumes of clean air.  Supporting your rug prevents distortion of the shape and eases stress on the weave and fibers of the rug while it dries.  Continuous circulation with fresh air speeds the drying process.

We monitor your rug throughout the cleaning and drying process and once completely dry your rug undergoes a final detailed inspection by our professionals.  When the rug looks perfect, it will be wrapped and delivered to your home.

Environmental Carpet Care recommends deep cleaning most area rugs every two years to remove allergens, dust mites, sand, dirt and hair that are trapped in your area rug fibers. Regular area rug cleaning will prolong the life and beauty of your area rug.

Summer carpet cleaning tips

Jul 26, 2015   //   by Ema   //   Blog Topics  //  No Comments

Summer is the season when your carpets are most susceptible to stains with all the indoor and outdoor activity. A spilled soda here, tar and mud from the beach gets traipsed in, melted ice cream dripping down over there.

No matter what stain you’re faced with, know that time is of the essence. The faster you remove it, the better chance you have of removing it completely.

The most common stains in the summer months are blood, candy, melted chocolate, grass, ice cream, condiments like mustard/ketchup and beverages like fruit juices, wine and sodas.

When dealing with stains this summer you’ll find that the recommended cleaning solutions are items you already have at your disposal. Here are some tried and true summer carpet cleaning tips.

Hydrogen peroxide – this drug store solution can be great on stains like blood, chocolate, soda, candy, berries and ice cream. Make sure you buy hydrogen peroxide that is 3%. Higher concentrations could affect carpet color.

White vinegar – if spills are alkaline based you’ll want to grab white vinegar. The mild acid neutralizes alkaline spills. These are stains like pet urine and beer. You’ll mix 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of water, start blotting and then rinse.

Rubbing alcohol – this mild cleaning solution helps dissolve oily or waxy components like asphalt, tar, grease and makeup. Use directly from the bottle for stains. For those of us that live by the beach, we’ve been using this no doubt for years.

When using these solutions on stains, remember the number one rule of spot cleaning is to BLOT. Instead of trying to rub the stain, which will further embed it into the carpet fibers, blot it and try to absorb it up out of the carpet. Here we explain the difference between a spot and a stain.

Steam cleaning carpets to sanitize them

Jul 8, 2015   //   by Ema   //   Blog Topics  //  No Comments

When it comes to cleaning there can be the misconception that gentler, organic products couldn’t pack as much punch. This is simply not the case. The reason we are able to provide such a deep clean and remarkable results without the use of toxins and chemicals, is through natural steam.

By using citrus-based cleaning solutions in combination with our powerful truck mounted units, we are able to heat the water over boiling point, which sanitizes and removes dust mites and allergens from the carpets.

Steam cleaning carpets is the only way to pull buried dust and allergens out of carpets.

Sanitizing is one of the most important qualities of well-maintained carpets. Even if you clean your home every day, there are germs and stains that get deep down into fibers, grout, and other surfaces that cannot be removed or purified without a powerful steam cleaning. The Huffington Post outlines the importance of professional steam cleaning to avoid health concerns that can arise when dust is left building up in carpets.

steam cleaning is the only way to sanitize carpets

Our safe, eco-friendly method of steam cleaning carpets sanitizes and leaves them soft, without an exposure to toxins.

Once we’ve done a thorough steam cleaning, the carpets require about two to five hours of air-drying, depending on humidity. A neutral PH leaves the carpets clean and soft to the touch.

Now your carpets are ready to be lived on once again. And you don’t have to worry about your pets, young children and family members being exposed to any harsh chemicals, fumes, irritants and allergens when your carpets have had a steam cleaning by Environmental Carpet Care.

As Malibu’s carpet cleaning experts, we thought we’d take this time to answer the questions we get asked most by customers. As you can imagine, we get asked all the time if we can get a certain stain out. Malibu carpet cleaning- offices

Jun 13, 2015   //   by Ema   //   Blog Topics, Latest News  //  No Comments

This week we were in Malibu carpet cleaning at a local office. The stains were extensive and had been embedded in the carpet for a long time.

One of our goals as professional cleaners is to help businesses save on their initial carpeting investment and prolong the life of the carpet.

Office or commercial carpets are always much more soiled than residential carpets. The carpet stains at this Malibu office ranged from deeply embedded coffee spills to dark dirt and grime in high traffic areas. There were some ink stains as well.

Our team easily coordinated around business hours and did the carpet cleaning in the evening.

The wall-to-wall carpets received an extra long and thorough steam cleaning and the results were dramatic. The entire office looked better and it was back to business the next morning.

See the before and after photos of this Malibu carpet cleaning job below.

Carpets are a Filter for Dirt in your Home

May 28, 2013   //   by shen   //   Blog Topics  //  No Comments

Carpets are a sieve for allergens, bacteria, dust mites and dirt.  You can clean them safely and effectively with Shen’s Environmental hot water extraction service to improve indoor air quality and create a healthy home.  According to Men’s Health, carpets are a germ hotspot and can be 4,000 times dirtier than your toilet seat. “Rugs are botanical and zoological parks,” microbiologist Dr. Philip Tierno told the magazine, and mentioned that they can have many different organisms living in them.  “Tierno’s research indicates that your carpet probably Read more >>
